April at Haut-Brion

De-earthing the land
Spring arrives and everyone is busy at Haut-Brion. The vines rapidly develop.

The vines are in leaf.

The hillock that has surrounded each plant since November must be de-earthed. However the vine is still threatened by frost; a temperature of -2° C. could alter the harvest.

In April, the plants are treated for protection against bugs and parasites.

There are nearly as many treatments as there are diseases and parasites.

Each season brings a new combination of threats. Thus the vine-grower carefully monitors the plants the year-round.
